Frequently asked questions, quick answer to common problems
Find on page:
  • How is data stored in MediaMan? What should I do to transfer or backup my collection?
MediaMan use a single file called MediaMan Collection File to store all item content, including text content, categories, sorting options and pictures. MediaMan prompt you to name the file and specify location to save when you create it. To transfer or backup the collection, you only need to find this file, and copy it to another location. If you forgot where it was, simple search your computer for *.mmc files. When you got this file from a backup, double click to open it.

  • I've disabled backing up when MediaMan first prompts me, how do I do to get this option back?
Press Alt to get the main menu bar, go to Tools->Options. Make sure you checked both "Enable MediaMan to backup your collection file on a schedule" and "Ask me before making a backup".

  • I've enabled backing up on schedule in MediaMan, and told MediaMan not to ask me when backing up, how do I change backup options now?
Press Alt to get the main menu bar, go to Tools->Options. Make sure you checked both "Enable MediaMan to backup your collection file on a schedule" and "Ask me before making a backup". But you'll only see the backup dialog on the next schedule date.

  • What does the error message during backup mean?
If MediaMan says your collection file didn't pass the integrity check, it means that your collection file is corrupted. Please click here to find out about the cause and repair method.
Other error message usually indicate a technical problem with the file system. Such as MediaMan not able to write to the destination directory, either because it doesn't have sufficient permission or the destination drive ran out of space. Check the destination drive and folder, make sure the drive is in good condition, have sufficient space left, and sufficient permission for MediaMan to write.
