- MediaMan crashed / accidentally closed, what should I do?
First of all there are two types of crash:
1. A crash MediaMan has caught by itself;
2. A crash has caught by Windows.
For type 1, MediaMan will display a message box stating something like: "MediaMan has encountered a severe problem and needs to close to prevent further damages to your data. If you are in the middle of an operation, this crash might result in data-loss. We are sorry for inconvenience.";
For type 2, MediaMan won't be able to display anything, instead, Windows will display a message box saying "To help protect your computer, Windows has closed this program?", or "MediaMan has stopped working. A problem caused the program to stop working correctly. Please close the program.";
For both crashes, first thing you need to do is to check the health of your collection file. This can be done by pressing Alt in MediaMan and choose
Tools->Check Collection Integrity.
If MediaMan prompts that there's a problem with the collection file,
please visit this page to find out how to repair it. If MediaMan can't start at all, you should also first try repair the collection file.
After the repair, make sure Tools->Check Collection Integrity tells you
that the file is okay.
Then try and see if you can repeat the crash. If you can still repeat
this crash, for crash type 1, press OK and send the crash dump file to
support@imediaman.com for
investigation. For crash type 2, click here to
contact technical support about this problem.
Please also note, that even if MediaMan crashes, MediaMan itself might
not be responsible. Feedbacks received indicated that Windows Media
Player, Internet Explorer, or other software like "Window Enhancement Software"
or "Desktop Enhancement Software" that provides alternative
looks to Windows, extra features to Desktop, might be responsible for
crashes. In these cases, it will be difficult to determine the cause of
the crash. Generally speaking, you can first try re-installing essential
components such as Internet Explorer and Windows Media Player (either by
manually installing or via Windows Update), and turn
off other software running in background, then contact support for help.
If MediaMan is not responsible for the crash, you can then go to a place
like cybertechhelp.com to
get help.
